Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge Wins ENR California’s Best Projects 2011 Award
Engineering News-Record (ENR) California recently announced the winners for its Best Projects 2011 Awards. Among the recipients was T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), which received the Best Transportation Project Award for the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge in San Diego, CA.
The annual Best of Awards is a competition which recognizes and honors the most outstanding construction projects as well as the companies that design them. Projects built anywhere in the U.S. are eligible to enter and compete in one of 18 categories, which range from civil engineering to green building. The number of entries for this year’s ENR California competition was 116, of which only 34 projects received awards.
Judging was performed by a panel of industry experts, based on design quality and innovation, craftsmanship, the project’s contribution to community and the industry, the solution of unique design and construction challenges, and overall excellence.
The $26.8-million Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, at 550 feet, is one of the longest self-anchored, suspension bridges in the world, connecting the southern gateway to downtown San Diego and fulfilling the City’s 100-year vision to link two of its important regional assets: Balboa Park and San Diego Bay.
Designed to provide a safe, elevated footbridge for pedestrians and bicyclists over the busy Harbor Drive and existing train and trolley tracks, the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge was officially opened in April 2011.
TYLI will be honored at the magazine’s annual Best Projects awards breakfast, scheduled for Monday, December 12 at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF in San Francisco, CA. In addition, as one of the winners of this awards program, TYLI will be featured in the California edition of ENR.
