Port of Miami - Crane Electrification
TYLin performed a cost analysis of proposed electrical and mechanical designs to determine alternatives for the Port of Miami - Crane Electrification project in Florida.
As part of the Port of Miami redevelopment program, electrification of the gantry crane docks was performed to convert the existing cranes from diesel to a cleaner, more efficient electric power source.
The Port of Miami is recognized as the “Cargo Gateway of the Americas,” with millions of tons of cargo passing through the port each year. The job of loading and unloading the cargo belongs largely to gantry cranes located on one of six gantry cranes wharves throughout the port.
The purpose of the project was to optimize the designs in relation to short-term capital costs and long-term costs, such as those for maintenance and energy.
