TYLin Leads Initiative to Create Stress-Free Neighborhood Streets in Central Los Angeles

TYLin, in collaboration with Arcadis, partnered with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and local communities in central Los Angeles to spearhead the identification and analysis of a 400-mile network of pedestrian and cyclist-friendly neighborhood streets. We coordinated with municipalities across California and other cities boasting robust bicycle boulevard networks to gather pertinent data, facilitating the creation of a novel process for estimating reductions in vehicle miles traveled and greenhouse gas emissions. The team conducted an exhaustive analysis of the health, safety, environmental, and economic benefits associated with establishing comfortable and secure neighborhood streets, revealing a promising 5x return on investment upon full build-out of the network. Moreover, our team meticulously scrutinized the equity implications of the project, evaluating the allocation of investments and benefits to ensure equitable distribution, particularly targeting disadvantaged communities in central LA.
