T.Y. Lin International Announces Completion of LAWA Utility and Landside Access Modernization Program Enabling Project at Los Angeles International Airport
T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces the completion of Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Utility and Landside Access Modernization Program Enabling Project (LULEP) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) following the successful delivery of 38 different projects over the past three years. The $300 million design-build contract enabled LAWA’s ongoing $5.5 billion Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) at LAX in Los Angeles, California. TYLI served as the prime design engineer for LULEP.
TYLI’s design work on all 38 projects included close collaboration between the firm, its subconsultants, the design-build contractor, Myers & Sons-Griffith, A Joint Venture (MGJV), LAWA, the City and County of Los Angeles, LA Metro, contractors for the new Automated People Mover (APM), Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility, and Intermodal Transportation Facilities (ITF), and many others.
Some of the key projects completed by TYLI under LULEP included new and relocated underground utilities to serve LAX and the new LAMP facilities, the relocation of the Avis Car Rental Facility and Metro City Bus Plaza, and the new Jetway Boulevard. These projects were required to prepare the Central Terminal Area (CTA) and surrounding areas at LAX for construction of the new APM, ConRAC facility, ITF, and new roadways and parking facilities.
Other TYLI projects under LULEP included the new shoofly on Aviation Boulevard to maintain through-traffic between Century Boulevard and Arbor Vitae Street, a new holding lot off Airport Boulevard, the redesign of Parking Lots C and E, a new 98th Street easterly extension, and modifications to Parking Structure 4.
“Thanks to great teamwork and T.Y. Lin International’s ability to provide proactive and effective design solutions, Los Angeles World Airports’ Utility and Landside Access Modernization Program Enabling Project has successfully come to a close after three highly productive years,” said Intissar Durham, P.E., TYLI Vice President and West Region Aviation Director. “We are very proud to have played a significant role in supporting LAWA and contributing to the modernization and economic growth of Los Angeles International Airport.”
