T.Y. Lin International Announces Completion of BART Silicon Valley Phase I Extension
T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that the new Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) extension from the Warm Springs Station in Fremont, California, to northern San Jose has opened as of June 13, 2020. TYLI, in a joint venture as lead designer, provided engineering design services for Phase 1 of the $2.3 billion project. The firm worked with the lead agency, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), and BART on design review and approval for this design-build contract.
The new 10-mile extension connects Santa Clara County residents to the existing 131-mile BART system and the cities of San Francisco and Oakland. The project included two new stations, each of which is part of new multimodal transit centers located in Milpitas and Berryessa. TYLI’s scope of work included designing the aerial guideways, trench structures, the Sierra-Lundy tunnel, grade separations, retaining walls, sound walls, roadways, and traffic signal systems.
“T.Y. Lin International is proud to have played an important role on this historic project for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and Bay Area Rapid Transit,” said Mark Ashley, P.E., TYLI Senior Vice President and West Region Director. “The completion of this project fulfills a decades-long dream of linking South Bay communities with BART and advancing the use of public transportation in the region.”
