The $62 million project, of which close to 90% was paid with Federal funds, began four years ago and consisted of widening Cypress Avenue from four to six lanes and replacing two steel girder separate spans with a single 1,025-foot-long, five-span, haunched, cast-in-place prestressed concrete box-girder bridge. The signature bridge also provides safe pedestrian and bicycle lanes with scenic views, in addition to meeting current seismic requirements. The new iconic structure serves as a gateway to the City of Redding as it spans the Sacramento River and heads west towards City Hall.
