T.Y. Lin International Completes North Estates Drive Bridge for Mountain Bridge Community and Blandford Homes in Mesa, AZ
T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces the completion of the North Estates Drive Bridge at Mountain Bridge in Mesa, AZ. TYLI served as the prime consultant responsible for the design and construction management of the prefabricated structure. The new bridge now serves as a vital link for Mesa’s resort-style Mountain Bridge Community, interconnecting the split development over McKellips Road and providing vehicle and pedestrian traffic with safe access to the community parks, clubhouses, and jogging paths.

In order to mask the structural elements of the bridge, there are four large, weathered steel arches spanning between flaring stone-concrete pillars at the pier and abutments. These arches are parallel with the low point of the girders and rise to more than 10 feet over the roadway to meet local pedestrian safety criteria. A decorative mesh was also placed between the structural members of the arch to serve as fencing. Both the concrete full height abutments and pier feature a visually-pleasing architectural taper with rustic stone veneer, and reside on spread footing foundations. At approximately 163 feet long and 53 feet wide, the North Estates Drive Bridge is split between two equal spans and rests on a continuous prefabricated girder system.
TYLI was also responsible for the construction management and special inspection services of the substructure and superstructure. Serving as the Engineer of Record, the firm provided the City of Mesa with a Special Inspection Report, including engineer daily reports, quality assurance and quality control reports, contractor submittals, RFIs, soil material data, certificates of compliance, and concrete data, including load tickets and strength results.
