PHL Runway 27 L Expansion and New Taxiways Project
TYLin provided construction management and inspection services for the Runway 27 L Expansion and New Taxiways Project at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Completed in three phases, the five-year project provides PHL with more space to queue aircraft and improves airfield circulation. The project extended Runway 27L, one of two of the airport’s main runways, by 1,500 feet, constructed new taxiways, and realigned existing taxiways.
Work also included the relocating of 2,500 feet of 12-inch-diameter jet fuel piping. TYLin used micro tunneling and directional drilling for the fuel-line relocation.
TYLin’s construction management services comprised staging, security access, environmental permitting and compliance, drainage and stormwater facility installation, airfield electrical, earthwork, and utilities. The firm also oversaw change order evaluation and processing, materials testing, and cost estimating.
Project Highlights:
- TYLin’s scope of work included the coordination and management of multiple prime contractors, contracts, and agencies while maintaining normal operations at one of the top 20 busiest airports in the United States.
- Airport upgrades give PHL more flexibility in accommodating the newest fleet of large aircraft that are popular on long-haul international routes.
