Cardinal Elementary School

TYLin provided full structural engineering services to expand the existing Reed-Westover Building into a 725-seat public school. The existing 45,000 sf building was renovated with an adjacent four-story steel-framed addition.

A gymnasium in the academic wing uses two full-story trusses to clear span the open space and transfer loads from the classroom levels above. The new roof structure, which supports solar panels in select locations, consists of wide-rib steel roof deck supported by wide-flange beams and girders. This project is one of a handful of new net-zero energy schools in the school district. Cardinal Elementary School is also LEED Gold certified.
