TYLin provided services for the structural assessment of the Illinois State Capitol dome in Springfield, Illinois.
The Illinois State Capitol was constructed between 1868 to 1888 and stands today as a historic and irreplaceable architectural icon for the state. At a height of 361 feet, it is the tallest non-skyscraper capitol, exceeding the height of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
In collaboration with a team of architects and co-consultants, TYLin performed an existing conditions assessment of the dome structure down to the main roof level. The study, which coupled intensive on-site surveying of structural conditions with calculations and analytical modeling of the existing structure, culminated with the production of a detailed and prioritized list of recommended repairs to guide future preservation work.
