TYLin served as Prime Designer for Panama Metro Line 2 (El Metro de Panamá, S.A., Linea 2) in Panama City, Panama.
Services included providing the architecture, led by Perez & Perez Architects Planners, and all engineering design for the massive project.
The Panama Metro Line 2 project included a 23-kilometer-long viaduct with 16 elevated stations. TYLin’s design for the viaduct superstructure consists of a twin “U” girder design. The three track switches for operations are mounted on piers with spans between 20 and 30 meters, depending on the geometry and alignment.
There were two basic design types for the stations. Each station consists of a ground access level, a second-level ticketing vestibule with an elevated crosswalk, and operations and support offices, and a third level for passenger platforms for boarding northbound and southbound trams.
Panama Metro Line 2 starts in the District of San Miguelito, where it connects with the Panama Metro Line 1 station (also designed by TYLin) and extends to the east sector of Panama north of Tocumen International Airport.
- The total area per station is approximately 7,000 square meters, with a total area of 112,000 square meters for the 16 stations.
- TYLin’s scope of work included seismic, structural, civil, architectural, electrical and mechanical engineering, geotechnical analysis, interface and systems integration, and coordination services.
- TYLin’s global design team for the megaproject included professionals from the firm’s offices in Panama, the United States, and Taiwan.
- Panama Metro Line 2 is designed to carry 40,000 passengers per hour, with a minimum headway of 90 seconds.
