TYLin provided structural engineering services for a new 23,000-square-foot building that is part of DC Public Library's effort to provide better and more equitable access to library services.

Completed through the Design-Build project delivery method, this new two-story steel-framed building replaced an existing facility on the same site. The new, modern structure is about 5,000 square feet larger than its predecessor. The ground level orients visitors and features a large community gathering space; the upper floor provides library stacks, active reading spaces, and an exterior reading balcony.

The two levels are connected visually by an opening above the main entry and vertically by an open feature stair, egress stair, and ADA accessible elevator. A highly visible building facade, designed to be welcoming and open, is braced back to the main structural frame.

This project is LEED Gold certified.
