207th St Rail Yard

TYLin is providing Consultant Construction Management (CCM) services for the rehabilitation and resiliency of the 207th Street Yard in New York, New York.

The New York City Transit (NYCT) facility was severely damaged during Superstorm Sandy.

As the managing partner in a joint venture, TYLin is working closely with NYCT to protect the yard from future storm events. The ongoing rehabilitation addresses communications, signals, duct banks, traction power, and tracks. The five construction components focus on walls and gates, the tunnel portal, power cable replacement, interlocking modernization, and sewer relocation.

TYLin has established a cooperative relationship with the construction contractor and design team to ensure NYCT’s directives and project goals are met. This includes providing Resident Engineers, Cost Estimators, Schedulers, Inspectors, Office Engineers, and other personnel for the project.

Project scope includes reviewing and approving the construction contractor’s schedule, detailed cost breakdowns, and change or additional work orders for the client and developing the work with drawings. The team is also providing construction and close-out services for each phase of the contract.

Project Highlights:

  • TYLin created and monitors an effective system of project cost control and produces monthly reports and forecasts to identify anticipated costs and note variances between actual and budgeted costs.
  • A long-term resiliency solution is being implemented for permanent walls and deployable gates.
  • A “fabric door” will be installed at the tunnel portals with concrete grade crossing and on a newly constructed concrete closure wall outside the limits of the signal tower building.
  • The project included the installation of a new power cable system, hand switches, pull boxes, and more.
  • TYLin is overseeing the signal system modernization for the entire yard, as well as the restoration or replacement of track and switch components within the flooded area.
  • TYLin is providing pre-construction phase services for the relocation of the interceptor sewer.
